St Andrew’s 750: Choral Music Through The Ages

The majestic church of St Andrew’s, nestled in the heart of South Church, Bishop Auckland, is celebrating its 750th birthday this year.

We are inviting you to join us for a glorious evening of ‘Choral Music Through The Ages’ performed by the Bishop Auckland Choral Society of 30 voices and led by their renowned professional conductor Venera Bojkova and accomplished pianist Duncan Brown. The concert will also feature performances from invited soloists.

The audience will take delight in absorbing the wonderful acoustics within the church enhancing the beautiful music and singing. The performance will transport you through a musical journey of Elizabethan songs of Tallis and Byrd and Baroque music of Purcell and Handel to the inspirational works of early 20th century composers such as Elgar, Parry and Vaughan Williams and more modern works by John Rutter and Fanshaw.

St Andrew’s Church stands as a testament to 750 years of history. Consecrated in 1274, its walls resonate with the echoes of time, embodying a legacy of community. Celebrating this monumental 750th anniversary, we honour not just its structure but a guardian of heritage, inviting you to partake in its preservation and the continuance of its story.

Doors open at 6.30 pm.
